Dina Wolfe Shapes Her Career As Office Administrator
By: Melanie Kowal

John Sansom“I always wanted to be a criminal attorney,” explained Dina Wolfe, office administrator at Slutzky, Wolfe and Bailey LLP. “I’m not sure when it developed. That was always what I wanted; I really wanted to be a D.A.”

Perhaps Wolfe had subconsciously been influenced by past episodes of Perry Mason or L.A. Law. Regardless of where the desire initiated, life as a D.A. would not be her fate – but the interest would direct her career path.

Wolfe grew up in Powder Springs, Georgia. She attended UGA after high school - the farthest she ever got from Atlanta, or so she related. In keeping with her D.A. plans, she studied political science and was actively involved in on-campus campaigns. (Her second dream is to become a political campaign manager.) It was perhaps her summers off working for her father’s business, however, that combined with her initial ambitions in creating her career.

President's Message: Carole Morris

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year and it's time to look back and reflect on 2006. This message is a little different and more personal than most presidents' messages; but it is important for me to share this with you. While the year is ending on a sad note for me personally, it started out as a good year. First, I took my place as president of the Atlanta Chapter; then I went to Montreal, sat for and passed the CLM Exam. During the year I deepened relationships with some AALA members and business partners and began new relationships with others.

Email: It’s use approaches design limits
By: David Moon

Before we had the Internet, there was ARPANET. A very basic version of the Internet, ARPANET came into existence at UCLA back in 1969. Slowly, ARPANET expanded to include other institutions around the world. As you can imagine, back in 1969, technology was not what we have today. But, shortly after the computers became linked, a method for sending text messages was developed and email was born.

A Look inside an ALAME Article
Gary Weitzel's Commentary on "Web Site Marketing: the Basics"

Potential Problems and Issues with Websites
Websites are usually considered an element of firm marketing, as opposed to a strictly Information Services function. Many firms use their Website as an online brochure, mimicking their print presentations (articles, brochures, flyers, newsletters, etc.) and enhancing attorney profiles with internal links to firm specialties, practice areas, publications, decisions and other areas to enhance the overall collection of experience and expertise areas.

Buchdahl provides a series of questions to help administrator’s identify potential problems and recommends working with the firm’s state bar association’s ethics committee if a concern is raised.

Are YOU In? You Bet!
By: Jennifer Brinkley

Many of you have served our chapter in one way or another; whether by chairing or volunteering on a committee or section or by serving on the board. So, you will know exactly what I mean when I say, “we’ve built it, but they aren’t coming.” You’ve sat around tables and asked, “What are the hottest issues plaguing our members right now? What can we offer to make their lives easier? And, if we are already offering those solutions, how do we get them to come and take advantage of it?” You know what I am talking about, don’t you?

Highlights of 2006

It was another busy year for members of the Atlanta chapter of ALA. Educational opportunities abounded, along with Summer and Fall Socials, the Business Partners Luncheon and Community Challenge. The ALA National Conference in Montreal and Region 2 Conference in Louisville were well attended by our members, too. As always, the year was capped off by our Holiday Luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel. Our members generously donated hundreds of toys and over $700 to Operation Compassion.
